Svalbard
Photographs from a journey through Oslo to Svalbard, the former mining settlement of Pyramiden and still-active Barentsburg.
Svalbard lies in the Arctic Ocean, roughly one thousand kilometres from the northernmost point of mainland Europe. This gallery follows the journey from Oslo and the polar ship Fram through fjords, glaciers and Arctic wildlife to the Russian mining settlements of Pyramiden and Barentsburg.
Alongside mountain landscapes, northern fulmars, belugas and polar bears, it records the remains of Soviet mining history, the world’s northernmost Lenin statue and life in Barentsburg.
